Ruth Castle
Ruth Castle is celebrated for her woven decorative dishes and functional baskets for lemons, garlic, and onions. Made from dyed rattancore, and refined over decades of making, Ruth’s wall-mounted dishes feature several designs, each with elegant, precise centres, giving way to swirls of cane. These pieces are supplemented by more occasional sculptural forms using vines, lichens and other scavenged fibres, which she weaves, curves and coils as the material dictates.
“I’m a great believer in the happy accident,” Ruth notes, “and will let my plan change mid-stream if a new idea or direction takes shape as I work.” Ruth is a firm believer that baskets bring warmth, texture, and pleasure into a home and that they enrich our lives.
Care Instructions:
The baskets will fade over time if hung in strong light. They can be washed gently in warm, soapy water. Dry in the shade. Oil the basket once dry. Neatsfoot oil is recommended but vegetable oil can also be used.
