A Shared Enchantment - Japanese, Australian and Aotearoa contemporary enameling.
26 March - 23 April 2022 - OPENING NOW POSTPONED UNTIL 2 APRIL
An exhibition showcasing contemporary Japanese, Australian and New Zealand enamelers of jewellery and objects who are either former students or colleagues to Tsuru Sakurai, chief enameller and adviser to the Ando Cloisonné Company.
The exhibition will showcase the extraordinary technical sophistication and challenging medium - enamelling, in both the traditional and contemporary craft forms. It will be an exhibition which links the Japanese and Western culture of enamelling through the enamelling artists who have had a connection and link to Japanese enamelling Master Tsuru Sakurai.
The exhibition consists of enameled objects and jewellery by artists Kazuko Inomata, Hiroki Iwata, Helen Aitken-Kuhnen, Mio Kuhnen and Jasmine Watson. It will also include two major pieces of Tsuru Sakurai as a contemporary connection to the artists that have worked alongside or attended masterclasses with him.
