Each work in Layla Walter’s My Nature relates to a cherished person in the artist’s life. Botanical and bird imagery connect to memory, time, place, friendships, and family – translated into glass, with imagery visible through the translucent walls of vessels. Long hours of making in quiet solitude provide a balance to a life shared with kind people in beautiful places.
Kererū carved from photographs by Scott in Matakana (where Layla’s mother Sally lives); Nikaū berry picked from her late father Adam’s land in Colville; Dahlia drawn from mentor Ann Robinson’s Karekare garden; Hydrangea from fellow artist Emily Siddell’s Sandringham fence line, and a Camellia vase named in honour of dear friend Mistral.
Opening 16th August at 1.30pm with an artist talk, then it continues till 4pm.
