Rūaimoko created volcanic pathways around Taranaki. Rūaimoko blessed the iwi there by allowing Maruwaiko'atu to transform the pathways into streams, lined with volcanic rocks to filter the water so it would be fresh for people to drink and garden with. The banks lined with heat holding rocks to cook with and to warm their whare in winter. Rūaimoko lives peacefully in this space most of the time and leaves it when the need arises.
