This piece references Taranaki Iwi and the resilience of the kuia that kept the whakapapa and whenua intact in the face of adversity.  With the close annihilation of the tribe through genicide and war.  The shape represents a toki, with the face of the tohunga and Taranaki maunga.  The strength of one can prove to be the turning point..the survival for future generations.
